About Neuropsychology

Clinical neuropsychology is a specialty profession that focuses on brain functioning. Brain functioning is evaluated by objectively testing memory, attention, problem-solving, and other thinking skills. Unlike CT or MRI scans, which show what the structure of the brain looks like, neuropsychological testing examines how well the brain is working when it performs certain functions (for example, remembering). The assessment of factors (e.g., emotional distress, pain, symptom exaggeration/fabrication) that may affect performance on tests of memory and other thinking skills is included in the neuropsychological evaluation.
